Helen Dallimore Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate

Helen Dallimore is Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Exmouth and Exeter East. Helen grew up in North Devon and attended local state schools and colleges and was the first generation in her family to go to university. Having worked in London as a lawyer, she returned to Exeter over 12 years ago and lives here with her husband and children. Living just over a mile outside the new Exmouth and Exeter East boundary, Helen understands first-hand the many issues local people face and wants to represent the people of Exmouth and Exeter East and create a fairer, greener and more positive future where everyone, regardless of their background, can achieve their potential.

For a Fairer, Greener Exmouth and Exeter East

Helen recognises there is much to do to address the issues of 14 years under a Conservative government.  Her key priorities are:

  • rebuilding trust in politics
  • prioritising the environment
  • investing in public services

Helen’s professional background is as an employment lawyer and she is now a workplace consultant training and advising leaders and businesses on workers’ rights and creating positive workplace cultures. Helen understands the importance of fair, transparent and accountable leadership and wants to use her professional skills to tackle the toxicity of politics.

In my career I have fought against harassment and discrimination and advised global and local businesses on creating diverse, inclusive and more positive and productive workplace cultures. I now want to bring my skills and experience to the place that needs it the most: Parliament.”

Helen believes that every policy needs to be viewed through a green lens to ensure that it is sustainable and puts people, places and the planet first. She and her family regularly swim at the beaches of Budleigh and Exmouth and she has been actively campaigning for cleaner rivers and seas for a number of years as a member of Friends of the Earth, Exeter Labour for a Green New Deal, Surfers Against Sewage and Friends of the River Exe.

“We owe it to future generations to prioritise tackling and adapting for climate change. We are fortunate to live in a naturally beautiful part of the world but it is being destroyed by this government’s policies. The fact we can no longer swim safely in our rivers and seas because of sewage and pollution and the impact on biodiversity is shocking. I would represent the people and businesses of this community to address this in everyone’s interests.”

With a housing crisis and failing transport system, Helen recognises that people’s essential needs are not being served. She has experienced first-hand the impact of the Conservative government failing to sufficiently invest and support public services including the NHS, dentistry, care and education system.

I want to rebuild a fairer future for all and fight to ensure that the people of Exmouth and Exeter East can access essential services so it is an even better place to grow up and grow old in.

Ben Bradshaw, Labour MP for Exeter, 1997 – 2024

“I know Helen and she would make an excellent MP for Exmouth and Exeter East. As a local mother of two, employment lawyer and workplace consultant, she has a strong grasp of the challenges we all face. She will use her skills and experience to drive positive change for Exmouth and Exeter East and be the fresh start the constituency needs.”
